You might have noticed the blog has been a little quiet lately. I usually stockpile a couple of weeks posts but between a new job and some other projects, I’ve fallen behind! But I should be up and running again soon.
But I wanted to send out a short post today to share the good news. A short story of mine I submitted for the To Hull And Back Short Story Competition made the longlist! There were 359 entries into this year’s contest and the fact mine made the top forty just blows me away.
If you’ve not heard of Christopher Fielden, he’s an award-winning and Amazon best-selling author. He also runs the To Hull and Back Short Story Competition. I discovered him when I read his amazing book ‘How to Write a Short Story, Get Published & Make Money.‘ This is an essential read if you want to start writing short fiction. It was a revelation to me, given I had believed I couldn’t write short stories before I read it.
It was through the To Hull and Back anthology I discovered one of the funniest short stories I’ve ever read, called ‘King’s Gambit Declined’ by Peter Ewing. If you love dark, gallows humor, it’s definitely for you. You realize that there are other slightly twisted people out there and you’re not alone.
Short but sweet today. Bare with me and the blog should be back to its usual busy self in no time.
